Velocity Modulation Scanning

I have a SHARP TV from my Mom, it's a 27", and it's currently in the garage.. I currently don't use it because, while it has Component inputs and is 240p/480i, it's contrast is not very good.. Not a bright tube, and was like that even brand new.

But it has a feature called Velocity Modulation Scanning, something makes the picture look rather...........weird.. It's like a sharpness filter, without ringing, but it seems to make things look un-naturally sharp.

I don't know, my Sega Genesis, which is 320x224, looks FAR too sharp to be 320 pixels wide. (The Genesis is Component video modified so it isn't getting any NTSC output).
