Done a good thing today, I guess...

There's this gal who lives next to John, one of my best friends. I was out there last night, & she came over. Now, Peanut, as we all call her, has not had an easy life. Been married several times, has several kids, & granchildrens. Anyhow, we gave John & Shauna a tin of this UNBELIEVABLY good candy for Christmas, I knew Peanut had gotten some of it, too. So I told her I had one tin of it left, did she know of anybody who might want it ?!? Well, that's all it took...She was about 1/2 mad I didn't go home & get it right then...Anyhow, I took it out there today around lunch, & I could barely get away from her, she was so tickled over that candy...But she REALLY went into orbit when I saw her daddy's old radio there-a Philco "Smiling Hippo", & I told her a little about it. Too bad it has a chunk broken out of it, but the piece is still there. I told her I'd take it to Terry's the next time I went & have it playing like new. It plays now as it is, surprisingly no cap hum. People who don't know much about these things sometimes think that those of us who DO know a little about them are gods of some sort. Anyhow, Peanut isn't exactly materially blessed, if you get my drift, I think her kids & grankids keep her pretty much "tapped out". I just kinda like doin' stuff for folks like that-Peanut kinda does a lot for her family, but I don't think they do much for her in return. Her real name is Melisa, but I doubt if she'd even answer to that...She's been "Peanut" as long as I've known her.

Ditto. Good luck getting that "hippo" fixed up - they're great little radios.

Well, we took the Hippo to Knoxville to Terry's a month or 2 back-& picked it up Friday. He got it going again fine, & I polished it up & made it look pretty presentable. Even the chunk out of the top don't look too bad-Almost looks like it might have been made that way. Anyhow, took it back out to Peanut last night, she wanted to know how much it cost, I told her "Fuggeddaboutit, that's your reward for being such a good neighbor to John & Shauna all these years..." I got 2 big hugs outta the deal, & a 1000-watt smile from her, that was more than enuff payment for me...

Kinda the way I look at it, too...I dunno, I've just always been real fond of her & her sister, Patti...My dad's big buds w/their uncle Severt...There was another sister, Puddy-Think how a kid says "Pretty"-, but she's dead now. Those girls were, well, let's just say they weren't exactly shrinking violets, but they basically have hearts of gold. And they've always been good to me, that's sorta how I judge people. Peanut's been taken by a lot of people for all they could get outta her, shit, everybody deserves a break now & then, I think...One guy married her, I think he started foolin' around on her w/this gal he ended up marryin', about a week after his & P'nut's wedding...
