My 1969 or 70 RCA.
Found this picture on some negatives I was sorting, it's the only picture of this set that I know of. The set was won by my Mother in a local Grocery Store Raffle, a timely event since our old GE had died a few months previously. Not sure what year this was but I look about 14 or 15 so maybe 73-75, the box of Kleenex tells me I was probably dealing with a Cold. The back is still on the set so it was before the tuner shaft broke off though I don't see the VHF knob in this picture so maybe it was right after it broke but before I removed the back and stuck a knob on the rear of the tuner shaft. This set was very unreliable, it broke down numerous times but I wish I still had it, it had a good picture for a cheap set. The picture is faded but it was the Harvest Gold color popular at the time it was made. I found a similar set on eBay a few years ago but with a woodgrain cabinet and a slightly different tube lineup. |

These photos were in a collection of stereo Kodachrome slides I found at an estate sale last year. It looks like the set on the stand is the same one in four of the photos. The furniture moves around, but the curtains are the same.

Homes had such a warm "homey" look to them pre-1955 or so if you notice in the pics. After that they took on that sparse modern colder look.

It's interesting that they placed the telephone on top of the TV in the last photo. It appears it would be a very inconvenient place to have a phone. You're not likely to sit on the radiator to the right while talking on the phone.

There might have been a chair to right to sit and talk. Likely they probably did not want to miss TV by having to run to another room to answer the phone.

I remember at one point in time, the phone company owned all the phones, and phone wiring was owned by the phone company and not to be touched. Perhaps that was just where the phone was in that house, and they decided to live with it instead of call for service

they probably put the phone on the tv so they could turn the tv down when the phone rang , plus you had everyone's attention when the phone rang standing in front of the tv.i remember my mom hollering turn the tv down when it rang .

I recognize the first picture as being the game board on the NBC game show Concentration.
The set has me stumped. The front panel hints to Motorola, though I can't imagine them making one with a cabinet like that. Love stereo slides! |

The one on the far right is definitely a Motorola, ca. 1956.

Few years ago I found dumped on the street some old photographic films (circa 1964-1966), some of them containg unseen image of buldings from my area (some of them demolished in 1982, my birthyear). Among them was this (which I'm not sure it was taken in my area, since I found pictures from another city too).
The tv may look ordinary, but in fact it was a roundie with a mask in front. http://rw6ase.narod.ru/00/twcb_/temp2.html "Temp" 2, the 1st tv set ever to be sold in Romania (year 1956-1957). Not many where sold (probably less then 10,000) and dumb people dumped them... |

Thanks - very interesting. Is the sculpture on top possibly a lamp to illuminate the wall behind the TV? Such things were popular in the U.S. in the 1950s.

I think it had a deocrative role. Later it was replaced by peştele de sticlă (the glass fish) put on mileu (doyli, doy). http://www.latrecut.ro/2006/04/peste-de-sticla/
http://www.stirilekanald.ro/adevarul...-vine-17014557 Here it's another picture (bought frome somebody). A kid, dolls and an "Rubin" 102 tv set: http://rw6ase.narod.ru/00/twcb_/rubin102.html http://oldradio.cz/rubin102.htm http://proradioantic.ro/index.php?x=item&id_p=224 Now I've noticed that one of the buttons is missing. These sets where more common. My maternal grandparents had one, my grandfather took in at the countriside at my grandmother's relatives, I tryied to take it back, but I couldn't Last edited by Telecolor 3007; 02-28-2018 at 04:09 AM. |

Emmett Till, in the picture, was the kid who was killed in Mississippi in 1955. Looks like the TV has a CBS channel 2 on. Likely in Chicago, not Mississippi, if what I find on the 'net is accurate... The TV looks to be fairly new for 1955, Wonder what make and model it was.
