Where were you located at the time? The only navigation aids that use "KM" code as an identifier are not in the US.

Chicago, lol? Why would navigation aids be using morse code identifiers broadcast as sound beeps in analog radio?

For easy identification... The 2 and 3 letter code id is related to the airport name...

It is possible that these low frequency signals might be picked up by the if amp in AM radios, particularly auto radios that often have an if frequency in the 200 to 300 khz range instead of the more common 455 khz.
