Sony SL2500 & SL5000 with TT2000 question.

I don't time shift programs anymore but still have a Sony SL2500 hooked up to the tv. I might use it maybe twice a year or so. It's more used as a clock than anything else. The only service I've had to do on it was the threading mod that went from plastic gears to the medal ones. I also have a Sony SL2000 hooked up to a Sony KV-1920. Also maybe powered up twice to test and exercise it and the tv too. So here is my question. I just leave a tape threaded in it this whole time. Is that in anyway harmful to the mechanism? These were very pricey VCR's back in the day and built well. Maybe that's why there still functional. They eject and thread a tape just fine, but wondering if that's bad for the machine to leave a tape threaded for an extended amount of time unused. I bought an original release last year of Blade Runner that had the Harrison Ford voice over. I still like that version the best over the directors cut. So I watch that and my War of the Worlds from the 1950's. Disneys Boatniks and Bambi. That's about all the exercise the old girl gets anymore.

I see in my title that I put SL-5000 and I meant SL-2000. Getting old I guess.

It seems like it is more of a danger to the tape than the deck... the tape may have to be destroyed to save either one if the threading mechanism dies with the tape threaded(some threading mechanism need the tape out to access the parts to fail)... also with the tape open and exposed like that it will get much more dust exposure than if stored properly in its case...I wouldn't encourage the practice.
