Vintage RCA 21-CT-661U color television - $150 (West Chester)

This television is complete and worked the last time it was used. The picture
tube was replaced in the 70's. It comes with a service manual and other
documentation as well as a high voltage lock-out tool for servicing.

I just sent him a note that I wanted to buy it. Now I see that Cliff has dibbs on it. Darn it! I have been looking for a mahagony Sevile for several years. It was the first color set I ever owned when I was 18 years old. It was also the first set I ever did a re-cap on.

Hey cliff, are you interested in flipping it to me??

Bob, if that does not work out for you and you don't mind the blond version Haviland sans stand and back I would consider trading mine for either a better CTC-4 of a different cabinet model or a sufficient amount of cash to buy something I'd like more than a CTC-4 (or possibly your example of that something )...

Thanks for the offer Tom, however I think I will continue to look for a mahogany Sevile. I have a mahogany Haviland but I do not like the faux finish used on the Haviland sets. I actually had 2 mahogany Haviland sets but I canibalized one of the Havilands to populate my CTC4 Cheltenham. At some point when I finally get a Seville in mahogany, I will likely sell off the remaining Haviland I still have; or offer the Haviland in trade to obtain a Seville.

Got this reply from the seller.......

"Due to an overwhelming response with people offering me more than I am asking I plan to post on eBay in the next few days."

I am too far away to pay top dollar e-bay prices and add several hundred in shipping on top.

The original poster should have contacted the seller, instead of blabbing it all over the world. Either buy it yourself or contact another buyer by PM.

I don't think squirrel boy wanted to buy it in the first place and was just alerting serious buyers...Granted that may or may not have gotten it extra attention unwanted by those already pursuing it.

The age old conundrum , when something of collector value such as this set becomes available does someone keep it to themselves if they don't personally want it , or do they post it up so hopefully another collector ends up with it . Consideing the risk of this desirable set being "fishtanked" if the seller had no clue of it's value , it's for the best I guess that the seller knows it's at least somewhat desirable . Of course , the bottom line here is that if the seller already made an agreement to sell it for X price it's a rotten thing to screw the buyer by jacking the price like he's (she's ?) doing . When a person would sell out their integrity like that it's a brutal reality slap of just how many folks will sell their honor for "a few dollars more" .

PS , before anyone asks , yes I would honor the first agreement if I were the seller , for the reasons of both honor AND karma ....

I concur 100%. If I list an item for sale, I stick with that price even if I get a large number of responses. If I do get a lot of responses, I'm less likely to negotiate down, but I would never jack up the price. That stinks.

I post about things I'm not personally interested in all the time, in an effort to alert the collecting community to a potential find.

The blame here lies with the seller for not being honest, not the OP who was simply trying to let people know the set was out there.

some sellers put out "feelers" for certain items.they judge by the response as to what the next step is.when i list an item,i leave" some meat on the bone".i realize that someone might want to resale and make a few dollars.i m good with that.once i decide to let something go,its gone.ebay, pickers, antique roadshow certainly hasnt helped this cause

Multiple times I ended up with a sinking feeling in my stomach, having just learned that the item I just sold for $ is actually worth $$ or $$$. On the other hand, I've been given stuff that was worth $$$$ so I'd say it all washes out in the end.

This makes me think of a guy who sold me a fairly decent console radio back in the 90's-I think it was my movie-dial Airline. He had been there at the flea market for several hours when I paid him $30 and told him I'd be back after I finished looking around. By the time I arrived with my truck he said several people had offered more than I paid & I could tell he wasn't happy, but the radio was mine. But...it is VERY easy to make a big offer on something that's already sold. Actually showing up at the sellers door with cash in hand is something else.

Hi Bob, You now know the rest of the eBay story on this set. I got the same message from the seller. I just looked a few mintues ago and I don't see any 21CT661Us anywhere on eBay. I bet it will go for ~~900.
Cliff
