Radios Scored

Last week at our local flea market a guy had these two radios for sale for $15 each. Then another guy had this ancient (mid 1920's) Sonora speaker, wanted $5 for it. What a haul. The big radio is a Firestone (!) 4-A 21X and I just got done with a Firestone; what are the odds of finding this kinda rare marque again so soon. It's like the big brother of the one I just did, same 1946 era. The other is a Philco 46-431, also 1946. Both have SW and all their knobs. There is a commercial decal set available for the Philco and I can make the one for the Firestone, if I can't save them. All will need to be refinished and the usual heart surgery. I won't get to these for a while because I have some others in the pipeline ahead of them.

Sandy, you Spiteful old Cuss, I'm sending a brain wave to everybody in your Neck of the Woods to clean out their attics, basements, back rooms, garages, and put some radios out that you can find. Now go look!

Not going to test the radios until I have them recapped. Seller said they "worked" but ...uh-uh. The Firestone dial is very similar but not equal to the one I just did but is in OK condition. I do want to dig into the speaker and see if it still works. Sometimes these get out of adjustment; sometimes the froghairfine coils are open.

For the next couple days, though, just got a couple new windows to change out the ones in the garage: one for right over my bench.
