12W6 versus 12L6
Vertical output in my Marconi TV started to flake out after about 10 minutes of operation. I didn't have a 12W6 in stock, but have a couple 12L6 NOS, so I installed one, adjusted height and linearity, and all seems well. Any harm in leaving it like this, or should I track down a 12W6?
Thanks Max |

That's what I'm thinking, I just wonder if the 12W6 has some special features making it more suitable for a vertical output, since they have near identical curves, and this TV uses one of each (12L6 audio out). In any case I'm going to see how it goes, as an experiment.

Then theres Muntz, with their own Vertical oscillator, Vertical output reflex circuit using a 12AV5GA. They were really fussy about the brand of tube used. It had to be a GE! Otherwise the vert lin and height couldn't be adjusted right! Also affected the vert hold range! |

Hard to say what or why they chose the particular tube, some color sets used the 6JS6 and others used the 6JE6. Very similar in characteristics yet differ in the pin count.

I think RCA refused to.use 12 pin compactron tubes, because they were a GE invention. GE on the other hand used them everywhere possible. RCA stuck with the 9 pin novar socket.
