Thanks! I've been refinishing projects like crazy the last couple weeks and probably will be for the rest of the month. The weather is perfect for it now, but soon won't be as the temperature drops.

Amazing what someone with talent can do to an old cabinet. Wow!

That's shaping up nicely! I love the two-tone look of those old radios. Hey, you know that old grill cloth looks a lot like the pattern used in my Admiral. I think that Zenith whiskey rayon #31 on grillecloth.com would be a good match for my Admiral. Looking at your pattern, the little "rows" are a lot longer so the Philco #1 or #2 pattern might be closer, perhaps.

I think GRC31 here is pretty close too. Not that it really matters much I think considering what a mismatch this set is!

I've been trying to trace out the schematic for the last couple days. It's deceptively complicated!
The power supply and audio output was fairly easy, but the front end and that mystery switch are giving me a headache...

I've finished the cabinet. Now I need to pick up some grille cloth and, of course, get the radio working.

After a lot of WD-40 and Caig DeOxIt, I have the controls moving smoothly
The switch has two positions and seems to switch some coils in and out of the circuit. One of those coils definitely looks homemade and is probably for shortwave.

Here's the insides of one of the IF cans. Maybe that will give a clue as to this chassis origin.
Seems to say "Hammarlund, New York" and 140 KHz ?

The wiring looks sound and the transformer resistance seems reasonable so I think I'll just recap it and see what happens.

In those days Hammarlund made variable condensors and other RF parts used by many.

Dannnng, for a Frankie radio, that cabinet turned out fantastic.

One of these days, I'll need to pull out my Frankie-set. It was a Crosley with a homebrew cabinet. It was built by one of my wife's ancestors.
