Contec KRB-1541 has washed out picture.

I recently picked up a contec KRB-1541. it's in excellent shape except for the fact that the picture looks a little washed out when displaying dark images, and the colors seem a little off.

See the attached pics for what i am talking about. Is a re-capping in order?

How are you driving it? Through the tuner via a modulator, or a line level video input? If you're using a direct video input, see if there is a switch near the input jacks labeled "term" or 75-ohm, try switching it and see if it improves the picture. Also, looks like the brightness is set too high. Try turning it down and turning up the contrast.

I did adjust the brightness and contrast. I am thinking probably bad caps as the speaker in my set also has the buzz, even if nothing is conencted to the audio input with the volume up.

Driving it from composite in via an HDMI to composite converter from my desktop. the brightness is set at middle, and contrast is all the way up in the pic.

there is no 75 ohm switch, just one on the back labelled TV and Video-IN, and another to select external/internal antenna.
