TV-50 Genometer
Here's another piece of gear I just picked up. It's a TV-50 Genometert by the Moss Electronic Dist Co. Inc (MEDCO) AKA Superior Instrument Co. (SICO). They are infamous for cutting corners where ever possible including using oddball surplus tubes.
Quoting from the manual this device is a:
It's in decent shape and came with one old probe. It has one 7193 tube with the grid and plate shorted as the AC rectifier and two 6B1000 tubes as the oscillators. Not a whole lot going on under the chassis Here's one of those 6B1000 tubes. I can't believe there's do vernier drive on the tuning capacitor! It's got to be a nightmare to dial in a specific frequency. I'll do a quick recap and see what it can do. |

Even the lowly Eico has a vernier drive. Do what the crystal setters do: put on as large a knob as you can without obscuring the dial scale. That helps to fine tune.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I dug up an original ad in a copy of Electronics world from 1961. That price seems a little steep considering how crude this device is.

The Superior TV-50A has a few more jacks in the lower center than the Moss - possibly some incremental upgrade for more features? It also might explain the price...
Cheers,
