I love that the VCR has a Flip Clock!
Compare that to the later sets with a VHS machine underneath the screen, it's massive!

Heavy is not the word... I had to pick one up at a customer's home. It felt pretty solid. The customer ran it for over 11 years with no problems.

Overall the most desirable solid-state console ever? Maybe.

U-Matic tapes, I believe I read about those very recently.

I bought one of these about 20 years ago. I replaced the tired crt and a few years ago tried to replace all the rubber in the recorder. I haven't used it in years but she's a beauty. She even has the black and white camera with case that was available for it. As precious as they are, you would have a hard time GIVING one away due to it's tremendous weight. I have had one offered to me for free, but had to turn it down due to shipping. So, I'm just keeping mine as a personal museum piece. Thanks so much for the video. I hadn't seen it before.

This was the first Betamax model introduced and the only way you could get it. The next year Sony added wood sides and an internal tuner to the deck and offered it stand alone. I have one of these LV-1901 combos in the collection. The picture tube is a bit soft but it still works. I overhauled the tape deck with a new head drum and belts. The control track head was open so I located a similar model deck that I could use for parts. It is indeed a heavy unit!

My Trinitron CRT is a bit soft as well. Looks fine with the sharpness jacked though.

Thank you for the link, Dude111. I have one of these, so it is nice to see an original (long) commercial for it. Mine actually IS a "museum piece", as it was on display in San Francisco Airport for six months in 2011.

Holmesuser01, I bet your U-matic version looks much better than the 240p one on Youtube!
