Victor- complete
I bought this Victor today for 10 bucks. It is all there. I haven't tested it yet. Guess I am going to finally have to get a tube tester cause I have 4 old radio projects sitting in my shop. Any info on this old timer? Anyone know why these pics are squashed?

I think it's a radiola 48 from 1930. Made by Westinghouse for RCA. I have one, too. here's another online.
http://www.radiolaguy.com/Showcase/Radiola48.htm There must have been several different cabinets. Mine, yours and his are all different. Look at the chassis, though. John |

Ooooh, I'm in love... Looks like it might have the old "globe" tubes in it, which would put it no later than 1930-31. Damn nice find...-Sandy G.

I haven't restored it. Maybe I'll get off my lazy butt and do it now. It is in pieces, and I'm not sure I have all the pieces. It belonged to my grandparents. It also had a pot that sticks out the side like yours.
The tube at the upper left in your picture is an 80. The ones at the upper right are 45's. The ones under the shields as I remember were mostly 24's. I think it's a TRF radio. My grandparents felt it had excellent sound. They had a small 78 turntable on top of it. Hmm.. globe 45's... Maybe there was something to that. During the war, when you couldn't get whatever parts were needed to fix the radio, they kept it for a record player. John Last edited by blue_lateral; 07-11-2005 at 04:52 AM. |
