Old philco 8 band tube reciver?
OK I should probably be shot, but I passed on a Tabeltop model of a philco 8 band radio reciver today at a flea market. $25
Wood box, about 2' wide, 18" or so deep and the same tall. Speaker on the left, and tuning indicator on the right. the 8 bands were marked vertically. 5 or 6 control knobs, for on/off/tone (?) bands vol, tuning, radio/phono, and I cant remember the others Not too many tubes inside, it did have a full back with cloth covered vents that was held on with screws. The guy let me take it off to look inside. There was also an internal antenna which was a coil going several loops around the inside at the back, and it also had conections for an external antenna, as well as a telescopeing antenna at the right rear. The most serious defect was the finnish wasn't perfect, and one of the glass strips was broke with a piece missing... So what's the verdict, Hang me? or shoot me?

$25 for a complete and decent shape tube multiband sounds like a good deal...
But... |

Oh, I missed the part about passing on it, maybe just because I wouldn't have expected an AKer to do such a ridiculous thing. So, I revise my earlier reply, and yes you should probably be shot.

Wanna use my .50 Magnum Smith & Wesson on him ? Or the Class-3 Uzi ? Well, i kinda made up for him...I bought 2 old junky radios ystrdy. One's a Bakelite Emerson from '47, other's a wood-case RCA AM/FM from the early '50s. There was a 3-tube HUGE battery set from the '20s that they want $200 for, maker unknown, I'd go maybe $75 on, but it's too big of a "pig-in-a-poke" for me. I got a bunch of battery sets anyhow, They're kinda like a T-model Ford, fun to run to town & get gas on a Sat morning or Sun afternoon & let all the kids swarm all over you, but not much good for anything else. -Sandy G.

From your description the set was a 53-960, it has a 10 inch speaker and push-pull 6K6's for audio output. I've got one that I paid $75.00 for several years ago at the Elgin IL Radiofest. After recapping it and replacing some out of tolerance resistors it's one of the best playing sets I've got......IMHO, you goofed......
