ETF Convention final plans 2018

Where are you staying, what time are you getting in, etc?

And are there any fellow hams attending? We're looking for a 2m repeater frequency for talk-in and general contact. de N2LCJ

I'll be at the Super 8 Columbus West off Hilliard Rome Road, arriving Thursday afternoon, leaving Sunday AM. We'll be unloading pallets of NOS CRT's (no, I don't know what they are) with a forklift at the Museum on Thursday afternoon, and can use help with tent setup if anyone's going to be around.

My cell is (315)879-5518 . I'll try my best to keep current on happenings and goings on, so if you have any questions you're welcome to call.

I'll be at the Best Western Hilliard Inn (east of 270 on Cemetary / Fishinger road). I will be arriving very late Thursday / early Friday, plus 3 hours jet lag, so may not be very prompt or awake on Friday.

Probably will look for folks for 8:00 breakfast at Bob Evans on Saturday.

Not a ham, but years ago W8RRJ was involved in (I think) 2-meter repeaters. http://www.corc.us/

If I can get Friday off, I'll arrive mid day, if not, Saturday morning.

Haven't been active since the tree that held up my doublet collapsed, but I'll bring my VX-5 with a good battery charge.

I'm staying at the close Fairfield...I'll probably arrive around dinner time give or take based on departure time and Chicago traffic...Don't know if I'll be at the museum on friday....At least it won't be as hard as last year when my hotel was so far from the museum I could hear Dark Side of The Moon playing.

I'm a gearless ham I've got a couple of bigger 2m radios I need to supply with ants and tone generators to be usefull...Plus some other stuff I need to fix/test...I plan to cheeze it for home by at least the end of the presentations on Saturday so I'll be waaay too busy to be hamming it up on the air anyway...

Getting a food truck for Friday night has been a challenge; there's a special taco truck event in Columbus or something, and the company that I had booked since February cancelled at the last minute on Sunday....his grill on the truck is out of order.

But, success!! We'll have Dan's Deli coming to provide food on a cash basis on Friday late afternoon for those of you interested. It's always a cluster trying to figure out who's going to dinner with who, and nobody really wants to leave the Museum because everyone's having a good time BSing

Here's the menu that will be available on the truck:

http://dansdeli40.com/index_files/menu.htm

I believe we have the truck showing up somewhere around 5 PM on Friday

See you all soon, excited to get down there!

I'm packed and ready to leave tomorrow. Everything that should go there will plus some surprises...Somehow the fill level only averages to ~the bottom of the windows of the Burban. This trip could be a 2 tank trip for my truck...I've gotten a decent bit over 400mi per tank before, and google maps shows a 425mi route...If I fill it to the top, drive it right, and highway mileage beats my commute average, I may just make it there without stopping for gas. It may be the best suited ETF vehicle I've owned yet!

I've just packed the Zenith 5317U in Vickie's truck, along with NOS tubes for every one in the set with the exception of the 21FJ (which tested like new on all three guns at an ETF a few years ago, though I have no way of knowing if it's full of air). I'm hoping to get a working color roundie, perhaps by buying one (and selling the 5317, even if it's only good for its 21FJ), actually getting it fixed, or if someone has a roundie with a bad CRT so I can replace it with the tube from my 5317U. Perhaps someone will have a Tesla coil to check the 21FJ for air. I'll also pick brains about where to go from here.

I'll also be bringing a small TV, an antenna, and a converter box (maybe setting up a "testing center").

Hoping to score:
A CRT tester/rejuvenator,
Knobs for Zenith B2225 (volume and channel w/internal numbers)
Original channel knob for Emerson 1224 - I have no idea what one looks like (someone pointed out that my knob was a generic replacement, after I had already owned the set for decades. Oddly for 1958, the tuner is twelve-stop, not only does the tuner lack UHF, it even lacks the vacant space between 13 and 2).
