Add stereo to ctc-4?

I have two speakers in my ctc-4, but they are too close for good stereo seperation. Has anyone tried hooking up external speakers in different parts of the room, should give good stereo imaging?? I'll look for a small multiplex and amplifier.

For me, I really only wanted to do this with the existing speakers since they were well spaced anyway (bout oh, 4-5 feet), just thought would be cool for this 40-year-old set to be cranking out 21st-century stereo sound out of it's original speakers, plus with these nice old thick, hollow wood cabinets they sound pretty darn good and bassy already. So am not doing it just for stereo effect by itself, but just to 'convert' the set to stereo.
