BTW: you can make a temp platter belt (good for ~1-3 months) by slicing 3 rubber bands and super gluing the ends together to make a larger band that is slightly smaller than the original...This can be a cheap diagnostic test before ordering a more expensive long term replacement.

You may also be able to cut 1/4"-1" out of the original belt and glue it back together and get another few months to years out of it, if it is not deteriorating too badly.

Sorry I have been away for a few days. I played a disc this weekend, and side one played fine with no problems, but the color problem started immediately when I started playing side two. Earlier today, I watched a disc & the exact same thing happened; side one played normally, but side two had the color problems, so I turned it off.

Can any one offer any suggestions on which tools & materials I need to attempt repairs on my RCA CED player? Does any one know where a service manual would be available? It would be very helpful.

I had factory training from RCA for the CED system in the early 80's. The color problem is very likely the belt. There could be some buildup on the motor spindle to be cleaned. Those belts were expensive back then because they were conductive. A regular rubber belt cannot be used. The platter will build up a static charge and burnout the metal conductor on the stylus.

There is a new YouTube about CED system by Techmoan https://youtu.be/0LrPe0rwXOU Well worth watching. So sad that RCA bought the farm introducing the technology. It wasn't long after this that RCA sold out to GE. I wonder if this investment had been introduced earlier if it hadn't of maybe would of caught on. These things never caught on and RCA bought the farm.

One of the key features (the protective disc caddy) was not conceived till the very last stages of development...If they put it out earlier it would have had problems without that feature.

It's a great watch but, that video is almost two and a half years old. You made it sound like he went back and discussed it again. (no, not like the VHD video)
