Too cute to leave behind
This is more modern than I'm used to picking up but I couldn't just leave it at the flea market. GE am/fm with external tape and phono hookups. It's tube and it's heavy. The speakers are in the doors but there are no wires. Must use the hinges I guess. It powers on but doesn't produce much but static like most antique radios with shot caps.

A lot of times, the hinges would need contact cleaning, as the speakers would become intermittant. Most of the times, the speaker cables were missing, if the hinge connectors were always used. |

I'll have to add that to list of those GE's that I lust after...There were radio-phono and radio-phono-monochrome TV versions too. I had a chance to buy one of the radio-phono units once, but I had limited cash, and wanted other stuff more...I hear the TV version had a blue face CRT.

Ah, that's what the rca jacks in the back are for. I found the jack in the speaker as well. I assumed the hinges were the contact. No other possibilities. It's in great shape except for a little water stain. Can't wait to crack it open. Got it for $10 out the door. Not bad.

Looks like I have some work to do. That filter cap looks like cheese.

That's the super-deluxe model with the power transformer and the 6AQ5 outputs. Hard to tell from the first pictures.
I have the smaller table model with the swing out speakers. Series-string chassis with 50C5, or similar output stage. Still a neat little piece. |

You're right, that was too cute to leave behind. I had a tube AM-FM stereo record player in walnut, same speaker hookups, and years later, the white French Provincial Custom Decorator, with a Daylight Blue television, radio, and phono.

I was surprised to see the speakers are two-ways. Hopefully the schematic is out there somewhere at least for the cap list.

Almost looks like the ancestor of the boombox... Just needs a handle on top.

Neat & rare set, $10 a bargain. Once and a while GE got it right, I thinks this is one they did. 73 Zeno |

Ya'd have to be king kong to carry that TV combo around on your shoulder for any length of time though...

According to the back panel, it's a T2002A (maple). T2000A and T2001A are walnut and cherry respectively. A schematic would sure make ordering caps easier.

Well, this thread is now 3.5 years old. I finally pulled this radio off the shelf and started the restore. While waiting on capacitors to come in, I checked out the speakers and cleaned pots. One tweeter is open. Hunting for a new 1.5" tweeter. This one is rated as 1/4 watt. Don't think I'll find anything that low. Looking at one on partsexpress that's 15 watts. I can get under 10 if I look at a 6 ohm model. Anyway, anxious to see how things go this week. If anyone has a source for cheap, low watt tweeters, please let me know.
BTW, the yellow grill cloth is not original. The original is faded but not too bad looking.
