Tandberg Huldra 7 Stereo receiver
This is Tandbergs flagship from the early 60s: The Huldra 7 Stereo. It's a 10-tube receiver with 5 bands plus tape- and phono inputs. There is two independent tuning systems for FM and AM. A mechanical system disengages the AM tuning capacitor and engages the FM cap when the FM button is pressed down. A stereo decoder was available as an option to receive FM stereo broadcasts. The 2*3 watt 12AX7/6BQ5 Class A amplifier sounds amazingly good, and despite the low power it has no problems filling the living room with sound. The radio was also available without the built-in speakers and also as at least two different floor standing consoles, one of them with a b&w TV. All the external connections are made with 4mm banana plugs whch means that a stereo tape recorder would need as much as 5 wires (left and right in and out plus ground) to be fully functional. The forerunner, Huldra 6, is technically similar to the H7 except for the amplifier which is based on 6GW8-tubes (one tube per channel in class a). The H6 was only sold for a year or two - i presume the 6GW8 amplifier simply wasn't powerful enough to satisfyingly drive the big speakers in the consoles or external speakers.
