Strange fault.

HI ALL!

I picked up a Sanyo HV-DX2 DVD/VCR combo at the weekend. The VCR deck is OK, but not so for the DVD/CD drive. It seems to play DVD's fine, then you insert a CD or MP3 CD and the drive goes bonkers. It spins clockwise for the couple of times, then starts spinning anti-clockwise and at high speed!

The laser seems to be working....so what is wrong here?

Over to you guys! All suggestions welcomed.

CDs and DVDs use different color lasers, so it's possible the CD laser is bad or out of adjustment while the DVD one is fine.

I had no idea those drives could even spin in both directions.

Some DVD or CD players have used standard computer-type drives and connections. If this one does, you can certainly try a different drive without too much trouble.

It's not an actual computer drive, but watching it try to play a CD is really funny!
