Hi folks. Thought I mite try here since you probably know.
Where do you get new dial cord? Is there any substitute like some kind of fishing line? I have an old stereo receiver that needs a new dial cord. thanks |

If there is a Michael's craft store in your area pick up some #6 bead stringing cord it makes a perfect dial cord replacement.

Well per merrylanders suggestion, I went to my local mega hobby shop and got a 20yd spool of waxed nylon bead string for $1.40. Just a tad skinnyer than the orig. but is very tough and should do the trick quite nicely. Even if I got to double it, but don't think I'll need to.
thanks again guys. |

Just in case that doesn't work out for you, I'm pretty sure AES also carries replacement dial cord.

The reason I use the bead string (and it is really very strong) is because I mainly restore vintage receivers and find the "regulation" dial cord used in radios is too thick. I had a length of regular black dial cord and re-strung a Yamaha CR-1020 with it, it simply would not work properly because of the thickness.

stringing along
Glad that the stuff works. I'l keep that in mind. Note, however that "regulation" dial string is available in at least two thicknesses.

when I get the stringing diagram and get it all together I'll let ywall know the results.
It's not just 'hobbyshop' string. It's used for stringing beads and is VERY strong and I'm sure will work great. I may beezwax it first to be sure it's 'stiky' around the tunning shaft and pullys just so's it won't slip.. |

Hey, good idea on the bead string. My Fisher needs that too so I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.

the 1st bead string didn't work out too well so got some more, waxed and abit thicker from a craft store, after hitting an old electronics parts store that no longer gets dial cord, the GC brand. The waxed stuff was easier to work with and I got it all strung and it works fine.
