Test Tube

Would a 6YP4 test tube work to try in a set that uses a 7JP4 picture tube?

I think you mean a 8YP4 ?
Sorry, it won't work. the 8YP4 is magnetic deflection while the 7JP4 is electrostatic. The sockets are different too.

I use a 7VP1 for testing. It's a green phosphor CRT I pulled from an old o-scope.

I pulled it from an RCA WO-56A.
I wonder if other scope CRTs might work as well - like a 5UP1
