1N60 Video Detector Diode Substitute

I have some cheap ones but I'm wondering if there's a better type I could install in an RCA KCS92 video circuit?

If the original was a 1N60, then replacing it with one should be fine - no improvment needed.

I have had good results with BAT41 diodes. Low turn on current without the leakage of the germanium. A 1n5711 may also be a good choice but is rated for considerably less voltage and current.

I have used 1n34 in place of the 60

Beware of all the counterfeit 1n60 flooding the market.

Getting harder and harder to tell the real from fake, and the 1n60p (Schottky), not quite the same, is it?

I got these on Amazon about a year ago.

A member sent me a stock of 1N34s around that time too and he said they were tested and verified.

Unfortunately Amazon is ripe with fake parts, it's buyer beware, but they are not as bad as evil-bay!

Yes I've put them in several vintage TVs and they are still working. That doesn't speak to quality control meaning the bad out of the box or failure rate may be unsatisfactory and I've just been lucky so far. I don't know.

Normally I rescue every Ge diode and important parts from old irreparable equipment, so I have a little but important stock of certain key parts...
Just for the fear of counterfeit, and for using same device type/class.

lots still out there to pick from, like the HEP135 or the NTE109

I believe someone used those Schottky diodes in my Zenith 27KC20 as the video detector and sound/sync detector diodes. I was never able to get the proper response from the third IF stage during alignment. I robbed a couple of diodes from an RCA parts chassis, put those in, and got the correct response without problems.

Is perfectly possible, since some Schottky diodes have far more junction capacitance than the cat whisker's Ge diodes.
