The alarm one usually just has a resistor across the terminals inside. Detects if someone disconnects the cable to "move" the set.

I figured as much. I need to pull it back out and connect something so I can see how it looks rn.

Tried it again today. Can't get it to video input. Was able to jump from channel 2 to 3 etc. screen is blue with lines. Will connect VCR next.
