RCA RP-199 with new idler from VM - is this bad? (see video)
Did a full disassembly, clean up with alcohol, replace cartridge, re-lube, and calibrate according to RCA instructions. Works fantastic - except, it has terrible wow and flutter... kind of reminds me of watching 16mm movies in elementary school. Idler is new from VM.
It seems like the hole is a bit off center. Would appreciate if you more experienced phono guys would have a look at my videos and tell me if I should be sending the idler back or looking at something else. It seems nicely made, that is for sure, but the sound is terrible. I have a video with the platter and one without, so you can see in the first video the idler itself moves, and the second video the platter forces the idler to move the whole motor assembly. Sorry redid the videos - new to this video thing please excuse lack of skill! https://youtu.be/1o3i4KaBKGk https://youtu.be/kaTfeRV_pyc Last edited by maxhifi; 04-16-2016 at 12:20 PM. |

How do the rubber motor mounts look? You should replace them to keep the motor in place.

Pretty good actually, but then I have never seen new ones. Its not loose but it will move around a bit. I will try and get some new ones, it sure couldn't hurt.

VM replaced the idler with another one without even asking questions, and it works perfectly now. The first idler was out of round. The service from the voice of music is hard to beat, and the end result is a 60 year old record player working like new!
