Late 50's ad

Excessive optimism or just dishonest adverstising? This ad claims that this TV is the "movie screen biggest rival"! I happen to have this TV, by the way.

In an Emerson ad, the quote was "The picture is so sharp and clear, you'd swear you were at the movies."

I wish I still had a particular issue of Life from 1955, which has a full-page ad for the ElDorado by Crosley (no relation to the later Emerson Eldorado).

It superimposed an image of the set onto the interior of the Palace of Versailles, and had the most overblown hype of a product I had ever read.

My friend and I would always toss one puffery line back and forth, with a phony British aristocracy accent:

"I possess the world's finest television receiver"
