Hi from N.Atlanta, GA

I've been around audiokarma.org before, but I tend to read more than post.
Lately, I picked up a couple RCA Colortrak 2000 (1985 and 1988 builds), along with a Zenith and another RCA XL100. I'm retired(but would like to go back to work) and I'm rediscovering my love for radio, tv and stereo. My uncle repaired tube tv's as a hobby, my friends were hams(radio) and I built my first Heathkit at age 13. I love the older color tv sets, but can be wooed into some of the B&W's, too. :-) While I don't have the equipment and all the expertise to repair tv's, I'm good to solder and repair some radios. Ok, 'nough from me. Thanks to everyone for their contributions, which builds this site to be more interesting each day.

Here's just a few things that followed me home from the thrifts or CL : https://www.flickr.com/photos/41385747@N02/sets/

Wow, thank you all for comments.

WISCOJIM - thank you, it was working up til yesterday…it was 100% functional. Can't say what happened, but I'm hoping it'll work with batteries.

Jbattles - Yep, here in N.Fulton, wife and I..but thinking of moving back to S. Forsyth. You were in construction no doubt. It's crazy building here, an industry that keeps clearing and making too many subdivisions. I don't know any sports stars personally, but...you're right!
I wonder if there are people in this group who might get together at meets or just get together to chat about old tv's and radios? Anyways -thanks for the offer, who knows, I might just ask you a question or two. Like your avatar! "big dummy" - about summarizes my tv repair skills at this point.

i grew working on tvs i got interested about 5 or 6 by whatching my dad. i went from tubes to hybrids to solid state and then the new sets. sets built after 2003 were not worth even trying to fix, so i got out. if you need help or get together talk i would not mind. i will not lie, but i miss the old days of me and my pop working together just like sanford and son.

Hey you guys ever get a chance to be looking for parts, there is a tv shop
down in Alpharetta that works out of a house.... The website looks like
they do installation of big screens now... But anyway, they had a huge
stash of tubes, and old tvs. Don't know is it's still the original people,
I was there last more than 15 years ago... Same name, and same address...

jbattles - that's a nice memory. Some boys/men do not have many memories or their dads, and it sounds like you had a good one. Thanks and we can certainly stay in touch.

Username1 - Wow, you're going to feel psychic when I tell you, I have been past Rogers Audio many times. They moved just down the street onto Highway 9. I'll have to stop in. They're less than 2 miles from us. Thank you!

Hey '49 they were on highway 9 when I lived down there.... They were in a house.
It was an older mature couple that had the business. If they moved, it's possible
they did some cleaning and may not have all the older stuff anymore....
Who knows it could have been bought, or their kids run it now....

I was running across little tv shops down there whenever going out to a town to do
lawn sprinkler installs. Just head out most state highways away from Atl. in any
direction and you are bound to hit on a town with an old time town square....
Not too far from there I usually ran across a independent tv shop....

Funny there use to be one in NJ near Emerson, almost across from a Rolls Royce
dealer, there was I tv shop, and in the window they had an unsold roundie up till
the last time I was down there, again almost 15 years..... Wonder if that one is
still there....

Username1 - it's not finding them it's knowing who to avoid and who is reputable, fair and honest. Rogers Audio is still on Hwy 9, but they were on Milton which turns into Mid-Broadwell after passing Wills Road. I'll check them out. An unsold roundie? Oooh, if they still have that, it's probably locked up in a vault. lol.

You know what's funny, I went up and down that street where they use to be,
using google road view, and it looks so much different now..... Even the place
I worked the roads are now double lane and divided with turn lanes..... Both
use to be piddly little single lane country roads when I was there last.....

Yah let me tell ya- that part of NJ where that set was in the window is an old
town with classic walk around town store fronts that have that raised display
window. I bet many many years ago that tv was probably turned on and passers-by
were watching shows on it, and thinking if they should get a color tv......
The window had that yellow tinted roll down plastic that would dim the
area so the wood cabinets would not get sun stained.....
