It's a little insight for me into Sarnoff because he actually looks intimidated by the whole thing! I had painted a picture of him in my mind of a man who isn't intimidated by anything. I wonder how it was for the people that worked directly under him?

It's not a natural thing to treat the camera like a person you're talking to; it takes training, which Sarnoff either didn't ask for or wasn't suggested to him. Very few people whose job is not TV personality will do it any better, no matter how good they are at their real job.

Thanks for linking the clip.
I particularly liked seeing the RCA TK30 camera in action. I managed to acquire a TK30 camera chain including camera head and viewfinder, power supply and camera control unit manufactured in 1947. I was unable to find the sync generator unit and plan to adapt a newer SPG. It needs separate pulses and the vertical pulse is 60v p-k. I have a few image orthicon tubes. I still need is to find or make the mu metal shield for the IO and to find or make the proper connectors and cables between the power supply and CCU. A better camera head to CCU cable would help as well. I do not know if Mr Pharis is around but any assistance getting this machine running again would be sincerely appreciated. I plan to tackle this unit next spring. |
