No question its cracked. Damaged by the drop it took. Was it
insured ?? If not contact the seller, you got plenty of evidence
the set was dropped and / or poorly packed.

That set has had it. OP, if you're looking for a cool 12" B&W check this out.

Is there a way to repair that crack? Or replace the part? Or at least mitigate the damage? I don't want to blame the seller. I feel they tried their best to pack it, but the post office was rough.

I am not ready to give up on this set just yet.

There's a good chance the fbt isn't your only issue.

The crack cannot be repaired. The core must be in one solid piece to operate correctly. You would need to replace the flyback and it would need to be the identical one. Your not likely to find one.

OP -- what is the model number of the TV (found on the label on the back of the cabinet)? I can look to see if there's a cross-reference part number for the flyback. Even if there is, it probably isn't likely to find a new flyback, but there's no harm in trying.

I know you don't want to blame the seller for the shipping damage, but it won't hurt them if you make a claim with the shipping agent. I don't know if too much time has passed for that, though. You ought to investigate that ASAP, before doing anything else with this set.

As others have said, this set probably has other problems related to its shipping trauma.

It's admirable to try to fix this set, but do keep your expectations realistic. It will probably be best to find another TV to use now for whatever you wanted it for, and put this RCA aside and have it as a project, if you're committed to repairing it.

If you're in the Chicago area you would probably be best served finding a local set on Craigslist or some such and picking it up your self. I think of the 70-ish vintage sets I own only 2 have I trusted to a shipping service...

If you were in Milwaukee I probably could have set you up with some kind of usable set given some parameters of what you want.

RCA part number is 140713 thats the number to look for NOS.
RCA drawing ## is 1464399-501 or 1435673-501 one of
those is printed on the FBT, use that to find a used one.
Be SURE the tuner didnt get damaged also !! May be best to
put it aside & find another. the set was very common.

Just a little FYI: Flyback cores are assembled with deliberate gaps. These gaps are critical to the magnetic properties of the flyback. The idea is to get the proper inductance without having the core saturate magnetically at peak current. In older sets, the gaps were sized by thin hard paper between the core pieces. In later sets, a dab of glue containing microscopic glass beads was used instead. This made the gapping more stable, but meant that the flyback could not be disassembled to replace parts of it. This is almost surely what you have in this set. The random gap due to breakage ruins the magnetic properties of the core and even if there weren't tiny pieces missing, there is no way to take it apart and put it together again with a tight enough fit to eliminate the extra gap.

Thank you, all. It's sad to know my childhood tv is lost to poor delivery. I filed a claim with FedEx. I hope I can at least recoup some of the expense.

Fedex settled with me for the loss. But I still am stuck with a broken set.

Can anyone help me find a flyback or replacement set? All the numbers and images are in the original post.

Has anyone found a replacement set for me? If they are very common, I am still optimistic I can find the exact model again.

Just checking again. Has anyone found a replacement flyback or replacement TV set for me? I’d really like to have a working model of this set again.

So I have no guarantee about whether any of this would work, but have you checked with some of the TV suppliers about whether they have a replacement flyback available?

If you want to hunt down a new one, you'd want to get a service manual for the set to see what your part number is. From there, there's a few supplies (Moyers comes to mind) that could potentially have one available that you could use. It's a long shot, but I don't see anyone actually looking for that part.
