This one shows the tint pulling across the eyes and nose, due to a colorful area at the left side.

What, nothing about my superb owl?!
On a more serious/related(?) note, this was the first Big Game™ which I did not watch on a CRT television. Our 27" Sony Wega Trinitron set, which has served as our living room TV since we bought it new in 2006, seems to be on its last legs. The picture has gone fuzzy, and the color is way off, requiring me to dial the tint control all the way to one end. In addition, the screen goes blank from time to time, with the power LED blinking some sort of code and/or lighting steadily when it does. It's still sitting on its stand, but similar to how folks used to put a new TV on top of the old console set it replaced, we now have a 29" Element flatscreen set sitting on the stand in front of the Sony. A sad end to a once-great tube set. -Adam

More on the tint pulling. I have noticed for some time that the set wanted 120vac to make full width. I finally paid attention, and watched it come on today, and saw that the right side was a bit compressed and gradually filled out in a few seconds as things warmed up.
I have a couple of replacement horizontal output tubes I bought a while ago just in case. Substituting one restored full width with line voltage down to 110v. I also think it may have fixed the burst gate pulse, as I don't see the tint pulling (but have to look a while longer in case I'm just not watching the right material to see it). When I pulled off the plate connector, the plate cap came with it. Had to pry it out of the connector with pliers. Now it has been sprayed with De-Oxit, so hopefully this won't happen again. |
