How do I get this off?

I recently accquired a promotional RCA drinking glass. It looks like it has a bad case of hard water build up on the glass. I thought I could just pour some CLR in the glass and let it sit for 2 minutes and it would disappear or atleast start to come off. Not what happened. I've tried CLR on it, Lime Away, vinegar, and steel wool. This stuff will NOT come off. Not even a little bit! Is this permanent or can I somehow remove this stuff?

Can you leave it filled with white Vinegar for a while? I left my kettle filled with vinegar for several days to get all the calcium disolved, once in a while stirring it and wiping it with paper towel. Cool glass btw. That looks like a 6146 on front, what other tubes does it have? Steel wool will just scratch I would avoid it. Maybe full it to the brim with vinegar and pit Saran Wrap over the top, and come back in a week or a month.

Will try that! Thanks! Other tubes are a three inch image orthicon, a pencil type tube, a high power transmitting tube, and a large cermet FAC tube. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact type numbers for the other tubes.

sometimes glasses get etched when washed in a dishwasher- especially if people use too much detergent. i don't think its fixable if thats what it is. maybe some kind of polishing compound could re-polish the surface?

'Barkeeper's Friend' is also a good product for that sort of thing.

I would be careful and not get any of the cleaners on the outside artwork.
I remember those old McDonald's glasses and other glasses I had with the cartoon characters faded away from the dishwasher hot water and soap.

The glass is etched I think. I will have to resurface it sometime soon.

Would coating the inside of the glass with shellac reduce the obviousness of the etched glass? Give it the same look as it has with water in it but without any water. Obviuosly I dont think I would drink out of it If I do this.

Never thought about this, as the etching subject only came up before for glasses actually used for drinking; so WARNING, but here are some random thoughts: maybe some stuff used for fixing fogged car headlights? Or maybe clear nail polish?

EDIT: Is the etching only on the inside?

Yes the etching is only on the inside.
