Motorola TS 4J

I bought a 7" portable style, Motorola at the Wheaton swap a few weaks ago.
As mentioned before, it is the most complete set of its type, I've run across. Everything was included! The seller thought the CRT is good, which it is!
Looks like, the last time it was repaired was the early 50's. Mine has the eight position tuner and a build date of Jan, 1949, no channel one.
I want to order all the HV capacitors, .001, .005 mfd @ 6000volts.
I'm going to order the ASC brand from Allied, as I understand that using ceramic capacitors can cause non-linearity issues.
It's going to take a lot of work to bring this one back, but it will be definately worth it.

Unfortunately, unless you only need 2 for that set (can't remember how may it has) the .0047 6 kV are on backorder until late July. I'm waiting on them for 3 sets right now.

Or go with the 10kV .0047. They have 12 in stock and cost less too

I usually get the 8kv, they are cheaper also. Never hurts to go higher, especially on multi kv caps.

I fully agree with going higher on these caps.
I would like to stick with ASC brand caps, from past experience. Their 1600v, .1mfd caps are great for boost filters, for GE PortaColors.
It's probably 40 years since I worked on a E'stat set, Motorola, Admiral.

Don't forget to look at Mouser and Digikey and Newark: what they have comes and goes,
but at the moment they have box-style ones good to 6kV that will work.
You can always use larger values. And cheap to!

Like Timmy said, order from Just Radios. Takes a little over a week and no big deal at all getting what you order. I order 1600v caps from them too all of the time.
