Hey Sandy!

You boat anchor man!

For years, I've had one of these (not a boat anchor, but a SW Radio with AM and FM reception): Sony ICF SW30. http://www.universal-radio.com/CATAL...e/icfsw30.html After many years of faithful service (and having logged thousands of miles of travel with it) the display is slowly fading and some of the buttons are malfunctioning...so...

I just got myself one of these at a much reduced price--Sony ICF SW7600GR: http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...able/0360.html

Look out Sandy...now I have SSB reception!

Kewl ! Truth be told, for the vast majority of folks-Read people who AREN'T Radio Nuts-One of those, or a similar set, is really all the shortwave set they need...They pick up 90% of what you want to hear just fine, are easy to operate, you DON'T have antennas, speakers, power supplies, etc., strewn out all over Hell 'n' half of Georgia, they have FM, too, which none of my "Bacon-Fryers" do, if it gets stolen, gets dropped, whatever, its not cause to go jump off a bridge somewhere, & finally, you don't have to keep a collection of expensive, fragile, & hard-to-find tubes...

Y'know. Walker, you MIGHT want to get yrself one of those nice German table sets from the Fifties or Sixties-They're fairly common, generally perform & sound pretty good, don't look too bad either. They're kinda "Boatanchors", but they're not. One of 'em WON'T give you a hernia/slipped disc moving it around, either-An 85 lb R-390A generally has to stay planted where you set it, but a Grundig 2066 CAN be moved around...It's only 25-30 lbs.
