The seller sez: "winning bidder has the right to have me open the box and confirm integrity of tube, etc. or have that privilege himself."

Pardon my French, but WTF? This goony bird doesn't know if this tube has gone to air and expects people to bid blindly on it only to find out AFTER they've won it that it may be bad? Some people would be willing to take that gamble if he started the bidding much lower, say $9.99 (which also would've cost him less in eBay fees).....but, nooooooo.....

Oh well, it'll be interesting to see what happens anyway. BTW, is this the toob that a CTC-16 takes? I always get the numbers scrambled in my mind.

I have a CTC16 that had the FBP version. As far as I know, it was the original toob. The CTC 16X I recently brought home has the FJP version. I've often wondered if they used one or the other for some of those sets, or, if they just used whatever they had on hand at the moment when the set was put together.

Is the difference in the suffix whether it has a bonded safety face or not?

FJP means it has the bonded glass. FBP is with the seperate glass.

Thanks Charlie. So if I unnerstand this right, then this is the tube for my CTC16. Haven't tested it yet but it's got MAJOR cataracts and am thinking of getting a replacement tube just for future use.....but I don't much care for the terms of this auction (see my above rant).

I don't blame you for being suspecious of the wording in this auction. I don't know why the hell the guy just wouldn't take it out of the box and add the pictures to his auction. Shouldn't be a problem with this tube "going to air" unless it was broken at some point while in shipment or storage. If nothing is wrong with the tube, the price is pretty good as I've seen used ones go for that. I lucked out on that set I just bought off off eBay (the cool looking CTC-16 that had all the books and tags) I discovered it has an all new "grade AA" RCA hi-lite replacement tube dated 1977 in it. So no halo or cataracts!

I notice the description in the ad has been edited; he has now opened the box and checked it out. If it was closer I think I'd have to try for it.

The seller told me that although there is no FedWrex or UPS service in his area that he'd be willing to take it to Cleveland(? I forget) and send it out via freight. Don't know what this would cost, but I fear it may be almost as much as the price of the tube itself.
