Wonder if they'll have coupon eligible converter boxes for our antique HDTV sets...

Because one converter box is not enough, now we must have converter boxes for our converter boxes...

Reminds me of a Family Guy joke "And in other news we're now broadcasting in HD. Coming up next the technology that is about to replace HD."

I think I'm going to buy some HDMI to composite converters. Since HDMI can do 4K I expect it to be around for a while, and down converters to for successor standards to be produced.

I'm getting REALLY sick and tired of Corporate America's greed. I guess the cable companies got together and decided that too many people are still watching OTA programming for free. NOPE! CAN'T HAVE THAT CAN WE?

"DTV stations cannot broadcast in both ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 from the same facility, which is why broadcasters need to partner with other stations in the market in order to simulcast in both transmission standards."

So.....we'll lose some stations, to simulcast the same program in both formats during the transition.

ATSC 3.0 on the main channel and XX-2 or XX-3 will carry the ATSC 1.0 until Congress gives the green light.

Guess that would make our NTSC sets truly Antique - two generations old!

Anybody got a B-T ATSC 1.0 modulator???

ATSC mods are around 1k$ (I was reading about Ham TV operators using them). I bet ATSC 1.0 mod prices are going to CRASH if 3.0 catches on.

And it will keep accelerating until they hit the 3D hologram barrier...They won't be able to stall it with fin FETs like moore's law's physical barrier though.

When I see things like these, I am always reminded of the old WWF shows when Jessie "The Body" Ventura would get out of hand, Gorilla Monsoon would just yell, "will you STOP?!" This is one of those time, can't they leave well enough alone, us poor people cannot keep up. :p

Still up in arms with the first round of this DTV crap.Love the comments below in the article.Love this statement quoted from the article.

“Imagine a world in which TV broadcasts of your favorite show or new programs were delivered in Ultra High Definition and immersive audio"

What favorite TV show.Anything I like is over 30 years old.

Heres another round of BS and time to get the new $40 TV coupons another round. With inflation it probably be $60 bucks. I hope they used their heads this time and made it backwards compatible then pass the buck and line some vips pockets with the green stuff.

PS Its great news for the sports fans which I'm not and Movie buffs.

I would not mind seeing a couple of concerts with it.

Wait, so for the novices in the room, does this mean we're going to need another converter box that will translate to the analog these older sets expect, or will the old sets be incapable of translating the signal at all?

Let me clarify that .I mean to say ATSC to the current DTV format and not analog.
