Need help with a dead Betamax
I found another Betamax, this time an SL-2710 from 1984, Hi-Fi machine, looks to be in pretty good shape overall.
The clock works but the machine is otherwise dead, the power button does nothing. Checked the two fuses inside the power supply and they are good but I have no idea where to start after that. I found some dirt and a little rust on one of the shields and the PS cover but it's doesn't appear to have any water damage on the PS or circuit board. Any help with what to check would be greatly appreciated! |

I would start by testing the switch itself if you haven't done that yet.

Well that seems to be the problem, thank you!
It's a 4 legged momentary switch so I don't know what the contact pattern is but nothing seemed to happen across the open contacts when I pressed it. I finally just pressed it really hard and it came to life. It plays a tape fine but the Eject button also has to be pressed hard to work so it needs some new switches. |

If you have a junk vcr lying around, you might be able to use the switches out of it. It seems like I've taken those switches apart and cleaned them. The memory's not what it used to be.

The switch sounds like its dirty Erik....... Try spraying some Compressed air around it to try and clean the contacts!
Good luck my friend |

Got a technics amp that ive had for 15 years bought it used at pawn shop its probably an early 80s model the volume and balance controls are starting to get hard to push in it. I always use the remote so I dont worry about it, however these 4 legged parts were used in so much stuff even some things today still have them you could probably buy a bag of them from ebay for 15 bucks
