TV Man: the Search for the Last Independent Dealer
What ever happened to the documentary "TV Man: the Search for the Last independent Dealer" by director Steve Kosareff. I would love to see it, but according to the website, apparently it's still being shown in very select theaters in only a few main cities. I wonder if they will sell a DVD, or put it on the web. Sounds as if it would be a very interesting movie, going back in time, presenting an all tube type TV to a repair shop and the responses that they get.
Check out the website: http://www.tvman.tv/?page_id=35 |

I am looking forward to it to. Here is the response
I got about it coming out. BTW hows about a grass roots movement for a " National TV repair man recognition day". Anyone know any senators etc ?? 73 Zeno Tom, thanks for your note regarding “TV MAN.” There remains some music licensing to be dealt with before the film can be released theatrically, on home video, or streaming. Once that has been taken care of I will post a notice regarding any media releases on the “TV MAN” website and Facebook page. Regards, Steve Kosareff Producer |

On a related note, there's a sign on a duplex not far from me advertising TV and VCR repairs, along with the phone number. No idea how long it's been there but I first noticed it a while ago. I think it's the same street on which a Pinto cruising wagon was laid up in a driveway for ages.

"Is there an independent TV dealer left in the United States that can fix it?"
So was he looking for TV Dealers, or service shops, or both? |

his site if you havent. Suburban Boston news inc. N.H. & RI The Electronics Tech Guild of Ma. & RI closed down & had a party with the last of the dues $$. Much o-be-joyful was consumed. The only one I know of that would take in a 50 yr old Zenith CLOSED...... He knew his shit & made GOOD $$. Dick from Westford was found dead at the bench with only one set to work on. God damn Funai combo! State of Mass stopped issuing TV repair licenses. Back in early 2K's they only were testing less than 10 a year. My Masters license is #8491 & issued 1976. Think of that. By '76 8500 masters, God knows how many regular licenses & learners permits just in Mass. !! Thats what I learned just today ! 73 Zeno |

That was in Milwaukee, a smaller city. You can imagine, the amount of shops in the larger cities, like New York and Chicago. |

I have copies of 1939,1959 and 1970 yellow pages for Reading,Pa a town of 75,000 in the early-60s heydays of repair. How randomly-mentioned services and brands changed over time IS very entertaining. Check your own locale's TV history at Libraries, Historical society or news paper archives. You'll likely get a big kick out of it

Just an observation of mine!
Look at the amount of investment that had to be made in a radio-TV repair shop, compared to other businesses, at the time, for the same profit margin. Many couldn't survive because they couldn't come up with the capital. |

In response to Walterbeers query: "TV MAN" will have its Pacific Northwest premiere at Cinema 21 in Portland, Oregon on November 5, 2015. Purchase ticket links will be up shortly on the Cinema 21 and the "TV MAN" websites (www.TVMan.tv). If you live in the Willets/Ukiah/Santa Rosa, California area the film will screen on October 22, 2015 at 7 pm at the Arts and Entertainment Space in Ukiah located at 508 West Perkins Street. If you are on Facebook visit https://www.facebook.com/events/849955288453950 for more information. Hopefully, these screenings will entice a distributor to pick up the film for general release and home video.
