I think the best looking VCRs, are the high end top loaders from the late 1970s. The solid build quality, the positive feel of the piano key buttons, brushed metal finishes. They look more like high end stereo equipment of the era, than the later plastic built to a price machines.

I also like the looks of the two piece units, where the tuner and VCR are separate, with the idea that the VCR portion can be used as a portable. I used to have an AKAI from about 1977, which I had tons of fun with. It's long gone now, I wish I still had it.

RCA Dimensia VCRs

Here's some more pics of the VKT700. And my other RCA Dimensia VCR, the VPT630HF (1987). I believe RCA also made a third version of the Dimensia VCR, the VPT695HF, which was SVHS, but I don't have that one.

Zenith sideways loading VCRs

Here's more pics of the sideways loading Zeniths. I have 3 of them: The VR2300 again, the VR3300, and the vertically-oriented VRD530HF (1988). The VRD530HF doesn't work, it's completely dead, probably something wrong with the power supply...

That's the one I need to complete my set of Dimensia VCRs!

I do have a Zenith VRE550HF Actually, I have two of them, but the other one (I think) has a bad head.

That last pic is most of my collection of RCA and Zenith front loading VHS VCRs.

From the top down:

Zeniths on the left (all working):
VR3300
VR2300
VRE550HF
VRE510HF
VR4000
VR3000

RCAs on the right (all working but for the proscan which is currently eating tapes)
PSVR61 proscan
VPT630HF dimensia
VMT597
VMT395
VKT700 dimensia
VKT300
Attached Images
File Type: jpg VRE550HF.jpg (40.2 KB, 7 views)
File Type: jpg VRE550HF_2.jpg (48.8 KB, 6 views)
File Type: jpg VCRs.jpg (75.4 KB, 17 views)

Zenith made a console with a side pocket that the highboy sideloader sat in.
