Panasonic th-50px75u bad panel

I've noticed this is becoming more and more frequent with plasmas dropped off for repair. you fix one problem to discover the panel is absolutely shot. Vertical COF (chip on film) drivers embedded in the panel overheat and start to fail. eventually this is going to kill off all the PDP panels if kept alive from frequent power supply and sustain board repairs..

Oh well. For sure not holding up as well as advertised. all panel manufacturers are suffering this failure. this one in particular has a 2007 manufacturing date, although old and only 720p, I've seen 2015 (last year of plasmas)panels giving up same way.

I have a dead Panasonic Plasma sitting in my living room, it needs the main board repaired but I'm not going to bother, it's nine years old, low end, and it was given to me for free so off to recycling it goes.

I have two functioning Plasmas, one is from 2008 and one is a last year set (2014 was the last year for Panasonic I think) and I've decided if it dies I'm getting a 4k oled. or 8k, or whatever is current when the time comes.

Agreed. Although I have always liked the plasma for its closeness to the CRT, in which gas charged cells emit light in an RGB pattern, its downfalls are becoming more relevant. I may have fun with this one on such a way that Aussie50 did.. hehehe

I had a 2015 LG OLED. I was vert impressed on the quality of the picture, however i couldn't get over the vertical banding.. The tech requires the vertical gate drivers to not only deliver the picture in line by line segments, but also light the panel. Have seen some go belly up already.

I know this is an old thread, but the model number caught my eye ... similar to a model I had I think. Maybe 15 years ago or more now when it was bought. I remember it started shutting off and then got the flashing red button. As I could figure, the vent screens were plugged up with enough dust after ten years of use that it overheated, and I wasn't aware that it could do so. Ultimately, I replaced three of the boards and got it working again, but could never figure out why certain channels wouldn't work ... couldn't tell if it was by design or some issue that I couldn't trace. Ended up giving it to my niece.

Good picture, but the LED replacement probably paid for itself in lower electricity use.
