Hitachi console opinions needed!

Hi all!
New around here, but I have been lurking for awhile now. This forum really got me started on finding nice old crt tv to save from the junk!

So, I need an opinion on the hitachi console. Do you think its worth saving if I can get it at a resonable price?

thanks!

edit : I think the image is not working...here's a link to it : http://quebec.kijiji.ca/c-acheter-et...AdIdZ377391482

That's a nice looking '80's set. It's been my experience that '80's Hitachi TV's suffered from flyback transformer failures and weak CRT's. If you can get it very cheap, it may be worth taking a chance on. If you can see it in operation before buying, that would be a big plus.

If the reasonable price is closer to $25 than $180 then yes, even in Canadian $180 is way high for a Modern Console set, you can hardly give them away here.

thank you guys!

Well the situation is the same here, I called a couple of people in the last week that gave away their console tv, but I was too late, they already trashed it because they received 0 call even if the classified was up for a month...

I'm kind of on the edge for the Hitachi because, a weak crt is a weak crt...there's nothing you can really do about it right? once its gone...its gone right?

But on a bright side I was able to grab a 1984 (manufacure date : january 1984) system 3 20 inch zenith for free and it looks beautiful! Its a SZ1961W model, and as soon as I figure out how to post an image here i'll show it to you.

anyway thanks you guys, you're great!

A weak CRT can often rejuvenated with a good CRT tester; but, the results are only temporary and could last anywhere between a day and a year or more.

The last console I sold was one of Zenith's last models from the early 2000's. It was in perfect condition and I was only able to get $50 for it, after a long time of trying to sell it. Since then, I've had a few newer consoles that I ended up dumping because I couldn't even give them away.

There are still plenty of them out there that people are willing to give away or sell cheap; so, don't pay a big price for the first thing that comes along.

Here in San Diego....if it's BIG you want, then you can EASILY find it by going to ANY thrift store....and you'll find them by accident if you go down alleys.

I collect SMALL....and those don't come around too much, and they have usually been abused because they are portable, batteries left in 'em...antennas broken off, ALL the accessories gone, etc

I would think big consoles were EASY to get ahold of if you want them. What pisses me off around HERE in San Diego....is a thrift store will have a couple consoles I really want to look at, but they'll sit a BIG 32" JVC set on top of it with a $15 price tag on it. Some set I have absolutely effing NO interest to look at...and KEEP me from looking at the Magnavox console underneath it.....EFFFF!!!

</soapbox>

:-P

Yeah, and the top of the console gets all scratched up as a result of them sitting other junk on top.
