Help needed for a 1985 Toshiba Model CF2515, Chassis Number 8341
In the course of a day, my Toshiba television has gone from working to 'mostly dead'.When I hit the power button on either the console or remote, there was the standard clicking sound and the Channel Selector lights up. I also heard some distorted audio(parts of the song that only played for fractions of seconds at a time) from a game console plugged in, but that was it. If anyone has a schematic of the set and would be willing to make a copy for me, that would be very helpful. Advice is also welcome/needed.

When you get a quick blast of sound then dead set its usually high voltage
shut down ( HVSD ). Caused usually by the main power supply putting out too much voltage, failure of HVSD circuit, OR a heavy load on the HV circuit. If you have a variac & AC amps meter we can help with it. ALSO post a few "nudies" of the chassis, it connects better than anything to our minds........ 73 Zeno LFOD ! |

What you are listing as chassis type number looks to be the production date. 41st week of 1983. Check for other labels on bigger parts or on the box or ink stamp on pc board, with a number something like this,25(xx)15. Also look for TAC3310 or something like that. All the best, Tom.J

Pretty clear in the picture that it is indeed a TAC8341 chassis from 1985. My Sams is marked up for a color problem, but a good start with these sets is to measure power supply voltages - but bring it up on a variac (no more than 90-95VAC) and see if it runs. If so, you have either a B+ regulator problem, a HV problem (typically too high due to problems in the horizontal driver/output stages, or a scan-derived supply issue - a low voltage that is sampled to regulate the HV.
With three caps circled on my Sams by my late father, it's a pretty good conclusion that an ESR check of electrolytic caps in the B+, Horizoantal sweep and flyback secondary are in order as well.

Four digit Toshiba chassii start with year of design then
a number. There is probably a close sams but without a collection its not an option. Most Tosh sets will be close for a few year period. We would often use a similar sets manual. If you get one with the same jungle IC they are very close For now I would look at both main boards in the power supply jungle IC, the horz drive, output and under the FBT. Also see if the audio outputs are getting hot. 73 Zeno LFOD ! |
