Panasonic CT-32SL13G saved
I was walking through my neighborhood this evening and spied this set sitting in an alley.
It seemed the previous owner took care not to damage it when throwing it out. I headed home to get my car and rounded up a friend to help carry it. I figured it would make a nice upgrade to my 12 year old 27" Trinitron. It's pretty heavy but we were able to handle it. I unloaded it in the garage and power it up. After a loud bzaaang (degausser I assume), I was treated to some nice snow That was enough to motivate us to carry it up the stairs to my place. It wasn't easy, but we made it eventually I'm really gonna feel it tomorrow. I found a users manual online, but they don't specify the weight. Anyone know what it might be ? I'm not sure my old stand can handle it We still have a few local analog broadcasts so I fumbled my way through the menu and switch from cable to antenna mode. Then hooked up an old pair of rabbit ears and autoscanned. It locked in on this Korean language station. The picture and sound are great. The only problem so far is a discoloration in the lower right. I hope it just needs a little degaussing. Anyone have an opinion on this set ? Last edited by bandersen; 05-05-2011 at 01:34 PM. |

You wonder what made somebody chuck a mostly pretty good set like that in the 1st place...Oh, well, their loss, your gain...Enjoy !

It's a real bonanza for the scavengers! That's how I got my microwave and office chair too. Didn't look like either had ever been used I discovered a "geomagnetic correction" menu item. I'll play around with that and see if the discolored spot changes. Last edited by bandersen; 05-05-2011 at 10:55 AM. |

I fixed a set like that (blown fuse) for a customer. I must say that it was a very well made TV, especially considering it was from the early 2000's. Panasonic and Sony are probably the only two "late" brands of CRT sets that are built decent.

I've seen relatively new ones at the curb here as well.

Geomagnetic correction did the trick

That set is Panasonic's "Tau" series, which was top of the line for that year. It was direct competion for the Sony Trinitron.

Ugh. After almost two years of flawless service, it died this morning. I turned it on, heard the usual internal click, then nothing. I'm thinking there might be a circuit breaker reset on the back somewhere ? Problem right now is that there's no way I can move it by myself to take a look

Probably an electrolytic dried out in the voltage regulator circuit. First thing I would do is plug it in a variac and start it at a lower input voltage. Like 105 volts and see what happens. |

Oh, I should have mentioned that I don't get the click anymore - just that once. It's totally dead now.
I did a little google search on this model and it sounds like there's a fuse on the power supply that's likely blown. Probably due to a bad electrolytic as you suggested. |
