From the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago...
Hi to all, my name is Sean, and I just wanted to say hello to everyone even though I jumped the gun and already posted elsewhere...
Anyway, I'm too young to know the "glory days" of television service and repair (I was BORN in 1984). But for what it's worth, I am a big advocate of keeping this stuff very much ALIVE. If you know me, you know I'm a throwback.... My obsessions began very young with my grandparents' Western Electric 500 rotary phone. So I've collected and played with telephones for the last 20 years. Then it was phonographs and tape machines and stereos and such. I found this forum while Google-ing aimlessly looking at antique and vintage electronics and instantly fell in love with the early RCA color roundies. Such beautiful sets.... so here I am, ready to explore and learn about the television. And btw this was the post I started prior to this... HTML Code:

Welcome Sean, There can never be enough eyes out there to rescue these sets at precisely the right moment. Timing is everything when there is preying by scrappers
Roundies are a deep passion and there is a whole category dedicated for them, Early Color. BTW, 1984 was a great time! VCRs, CDs, Sony stuff and more cable offerings, not to mention C-band satellite dishes with unscrambled channels...oops.....becoming catatonic....

Welcome from a "downstater." There's a lot of miles of corn sprouts between us, but it's good to have another from Illinois.
Beautiful set! I'm sure you'll enjoy this site. |

Welcome!!
I resonate with that "Throwback" title as well, and proud of it!! I swear I was born in the wrong decade. Oh, to have been a vacuum tube engineer!!
i was interested in tubes when my fellow electronics students were mostly interested in digital electronics and microprocessors. I am a VK'er also, but have never put up a real project, just sharing in the stories about the glory days, which I was at the tail end of in the 1970's. This is a GREAT forum, with lots of brilliant minds. |

Hi Sean. Welcome aboard! I too am a newbie here, but I am a long-time telephone collector and really like Western Electric & Bell System related things too. Let me know if you need information, etc. about phones.

It's nice to know there are other collectors of this stuff, and that we can APPRECIATE it. My family thinks I'm crazy. They just don't appreciate the real value of well-made stuff. Living in this Wal-Mart Chinese-made throw away society drives me up the wall!
