B & K rejuvenator tester manual?
Does anyone out there have a manual, preferably a PDF or other type of emailable file for a B & K model 350 Cathode Tester Rejuvenator? A friend has the tester and we're intending to use it on the CRT of my 1951 Zenith Model 2445R, chassis 24H21. Do you see any danger to the CRT using this model tester? Thanks! Steve

It should be fine for testing your tube, not so fine for rejuvenating if that's needed.
The models of B&K older than a 470 were pretty harsh for rejuvenating, just a big blast of electricity across the cathode, often doing more harm than good. Sorry, I don't have the manual for it. |

I wouldn't use it for rejuvenation either. However, I found a post over on Antique Radio Forum by Mr. Detrola who seems to like it.
Perhaps he could scan the manual for you. John |

I found Detrola's posts but there are 12204. How do I find the one you're talking about? Thx, Steve

Nevermind. I found Detrola's profile and the thread on antique radio and sent him a PM.

I have the owner's manual for the 400, which is basically the same unit except for the meter shape. (The 420 went to a different circuit.) None of the early B&K manuals include a schematic. The one 350 that I've seen and some of the 400's were often found with burned resistors. Of course on a unit this old, both capacitors should be replaced and the one tube checked before using. I agree with the others, don't use the rejuvenation button on the 350 or 400 unless you want to risk killing the CRT. Other than that, these old units work very well on pre-mid-1950's CRTs and I really like how they enable you to quickly compare two tubes when you don't have a working set to use. I have added a copy of the 400 instructions. I don't have the original tube list, but all that it told was the filament voltage. If the tube would fit the only socket the tester had, and it was 1950s or earlier, it could be tested. The tube list in a below post is only for much newer B&K (higher number) CRT testers. James. I love my 400 and 445. I only use to test CRT function and quality of course, but their great for burning in a long unused CRT, or bumping the filament voltage for an 'awakening' session. I keep one on the shelf and one in the trunk of my car for the occasional surprise find while on the road.

James, how many pages is it? I don't want you to go to too much trouble. This is what I found on the net last night. Do you think these instructions will work?

The 467 was the earliest model number that used 3-meters and had a safe rejuvenate function. The 467 and 490 are basically the same. The 470 was the first single meter model with a safe rejuvenate function and is the model I currently use. The 470 and 480 models are basically the same. I used to have a 465 that would test most pre-early '70's color/B&W tubes and would test the newer tubes with the right adapters; but, it used the same "atomic blast" rejuvenate function as earlier models.

The 467 is a good unit for rejuvination. I also have a 467 and a 490 and prefer the 467 as it's easier (for me) to operate. I also use my Sencore SuperMack which seems to work well too.

I have a Heathkit IT5320 that is good for all the cautious stuff like raising heater voltage.
In 34 years, I trashed only one CRT with it, a 1971 GE "N1" non-delta tube that had a very stubborn blue gun. It uses a series of incandescent lamps as a current limiter. Does anyone else have experience with this one? |

Thank you so much for adding that PDF for me. I've saved it and will print it out when we're ready to test the pic tube. Steve

I found a B&K model 440 today for 10 bucks and bought it. It has a tube chart with my pic tube in it but no instructions. Can I used the 350 instructions in the PDF you attached and be safe or do I need the 440 instructions to conduct the tests I need to to find out if my pic tube is good?
Thx! Steve |
