Dumont RA 101A Westminster
I have the opportunity to purchase one of these gargantuan RA 101A's and was wondering if anyone knew a weight on it. I'm thinking 500lbs+ but I'm not really sure.
As far as rarity goes, how many were produced? I can't imagine many, but did dumont publish numbers? Or a good approximation? Definately excited about the potential purchase in any case

Imagine delivering this beast to a fifth story walk-up apartment! This would have been a perfect plot for a Laurel and Hardy short subject film.

For Pete's sake, don't do it. I wouldn't do it unless I were the kind of person who enjoys the heck out of taking chances with anything (I most certainly am not, especially since I am very unsteady on my feet, no thanks to a bad fall I had several years ago), especially a dangerous task such as this.
It would be very difficult to carry a TV of this size and weight up five flights of stairs. It would take at least, and I emphasize at least, two extremely strong men to do it successfully. Otherwise, the only other way to do this, that I can think of anyway, would be to take the chassis, tuners, and speakers, not to mention the CRT, out of the cabinet and carry each component up those stairs individually, installing them in the cabinet one piece at a time. Be certain, of course, the CRT isn't dropped, or else you would have one heck of a mess on your hands. I also thought of using the building's elevator to assist with the task of getting the set to the fifth floor, although this would be extremely risky because of the weight of the TV. That, plus the weight of the person/people transporting the set, could very, very easily snap the elevator cable, causing the elevator to crash down the shaft to the basement immediately. This would result, again, in one heck of a mess, not to mention injury to the person/people attempting the project.

The OP did not say anything about it being on or going to the fifth floor.
That was something someone said to imagine. Modern elevators have safety brakes that should be working.

The 20" Dumonts are worse because NOBODY ELSE used the 20BP4 and if you can't find a worse 20" Dumont (like you weren't already very lucky to find the first one) then you're probably going to have to hack in a 19AP4, 20CP4 or something else.

My Westminster has a 19AP4 modification kit that the factory produced. I guess the 20BP4 was either problematic or just too low of a volume to produce more. The mask and CRT mounting was changed and I think there was a mod to the focus coil circuit as well if I recall correctly. The 1/2" less all around is hardly noticeable. Of course the 19AP4 tube is glass and metal and they now have problems with leakage.
