Elgin R1310 AM/FM:What year?
Anyone know the year of this Elgin model R1310 AM/FM? It measures 5-3/4" x 3-1/4", and was made in Hong Kong/Indonesia. Thanks.

Yup....1966 thru 1968...as I recall. Our jewelry store carried Elgin watches, radios and clock radios.

Well, 1966 would sound about right, as my father bought me an Elgin radio in Sept/Oct 1966 at a Rexall drug store (Wilmington, DE). I've recently bought this one as a replacement, but was not sure if it fit in the correct time period. Apparently it's the correct model. Thanks fellas!

I have to wonder why a good brand like Elgin would need to jump on the transistor bandwagon with a $1.98 import. Watches had not fallen out of favor then.

BUT...Elgin watches had. In the late 50's they started producing watches in France and they were not all that tasty.

It looks like it was a decent radio! Early generation silicon transistors. It looks like it would flatten a 9 volt battery in no time, especially on FM.

As to the above radio, since I put new caps in and made some internal adjustments, it outperforms all my other transistor radios (about 10 right now). If this is exactly like the one I had in the 60s, it cost around $14 new.
