1979 and 1980 Zenith 19" color sets

This is the last of the Chromacolor IIs vs. the first of the System IIIs. The one on the left (the CCII) is the 19JC60Z chassis, model SJ1939W, made in Feburary 1979, with the SC1000 remote and the zoom. The right one is made August 1980, with the SC800 remote (no zoom).

I doubt you can really tell much how a tv picture looks with a crappy cellphone pic (those clear vertical lines in the CCII picture come from the camera, they were not on the TV. It's nearly impossible to take a picture of a TV working with that phone and not get those. I took over 100 pics of the Sys3 and only got 2 without those lines, about 50 of the CCII and they all had the lines.) The Sys3 was wired directly to a B-T agile modulator (on ch11) hooked to a converter box. The CCII was receiving through the built-in rabbit ears from a B-T agile modulator (on ch13) hooked to a DVD player.

Nice sets. I really like these late 70's and early 80's Zeniths. They can make a very nice picture. Another underrated family of TV's IMO. I will actually be getting two sets very similar to these next month. A 1977 CCII non remote, and a 1979 System 3 with SC1000 and ZOOM.

Love these late 70's and I'll go as far as early 90's Zeniths. But that zoom...I don't know what they were thinking. lol

It looks like you've got the more deluxe version of my '80 that's actually labeled a System 3.

I've got 2 of the CCII: a 1977 17" with the SC600, and this 1979 19" with the SC1000

And 3 from the Sys3 era (none of which are actually labeled System3s): this 1980 19" with the SC800, a 1984 13" with the IR remote, and a 1987 9" with the IR remote in the white cabinet.

About 10 years ago I had a remote control 25" System 3 from 1983 in the metal cabinet, I wish I still had that one.

I also have this TOL System 3 from 1982 that I got back in May. Got the original remote too, but it only works half the time, even with a new battery.

What kind of clock is that on top of it? I've been looking for a 1970s-80s electronic digital alarm clock (no radio), but would like to find one like that with the blue vfd display, rather than the red led display (which seems way more common).

What you saw was an RCA radio, but I do happen to have a 1980 Micronta clock on the same TV tower, but much lower.

That's weird, I remember that digital clock being on top of the System 3 the last time I looked at the picture. Anyway, that makes sense about the clock, because the shape and color of the numbers look similar to that on a 1980 Realistic clock radio I have, and I think Realistic and Micronta are both names Radio Shack put on their stuff.

Man, I like that Chromacolor II. Zoom may not be all that useful but it's still neat to see.

I feel fortunate to have worked in 2 shops that serviced many 19" Zenith models back in the day.
The weight difference from a system 3 is probably significant. The CCII sets had the regulating transformer and seemed even heavier than the 19" XL's and Colortraks (to a tall-skinny 18 YO at least)

I think even the 13" CCII weighs more than the 19" system 3.

No surprise there, they basically shoehorned everything from a 19" CCII chassis into a 13" cabinet.
