On-screen display of volume or brightness controls
Does anyone know if a television or computer monitor existed in the 1970's that had a graphical display of a volume or brightness control? If the volume or brightness changed, a bar or a character should be displayed to show the change in volume or brightness. Do any articles possibly exist on the subject?
Thanks. |

Magnavox had the "Star System" TV in the 70's that had on screen channel numbers, it may have done volume too but I don't think it did the video adjustments?

Heath and of course RCA, both with their respective 2000 models had on screen time and/or channel displays but I doubt that anyone had a set with other types of OSD's.

Forgot to mention, the Heathkit GR-2000 set with OSD came out in about '73 and was only predated by the RCA G-2000 which was over twice as much money.

Don't forget Zenith- They got in on the OSD bandwagon pretty early also. I've got a set outside (yes, several years still working) that has OSD with a metal cabinet, but I'm not sure on displaying the adjustments besides time and station. They seemed to be on the "cutting edge" during the late 70's early 80's.

I had a RCA CTC-92 from 1979 or so that used a delta gun crt and had ultrasonic remote, it had an on-screen display of channel and time. It was scrapped out for parts because the CRT was extremely weak, even when the filament voltage was boosted.
