I finally found a local Zenith BW TV!

I know very little about it so far other than the Chassis # is 17b20.

It's in rough shape, but it IS close to me, anyone know about this type of Zenith?

It's 1958 or 59, uses the chassis that eventually became the 14N22 in 1966 ( which is when Zenith decided they couldn't do better and color was the future but kept making them till 1975 for the elderly). I might know the model but the poster is at home.

This series chassii were the best B&W sets ever built bar none.
Probably works & needs little. If the jug is good the set should
last another 60 yrs.

+1 With the caveat that prior to 64 they had bumblebees and those lousy tubular ceramic bodied paper caps...Also lytics on the pre 64 sets are starting to get iffy. They often fight valiantly to live despite that.

The newer orange drop era sets are damn near immortal unless you run them till the tubes die, or loose the lytics lottery

That sucks.
About a month ago I was trying to trade a rough CTC-5 in one of my favorite cabinets and my restored CTC-5 for a nice example in one of my favorite cabinets...Some old collector goof contact s me thinking I'll sell my restored CTC-5 or trade it for something else. I told him it wasn't for sale and nothing he mentioned interested me.
About a week later he posts a Setchel Carlson roundy and some other sets for sale. I forgot who he was and messaged him that I would buy the Setchel Carlson from him....He replies to that trying to make that into a trade for the CTC-5...I go yeah that's probably the only set I would trade the CTC-5 for then 20 minutes later he messages me that he sold the Setchel Carlson out from under me AND had the audacity to think I would still trade him the CTC-5 for anything after he did that... That kind of dirty pool or utter lack of mental faculty pretty much ends all bussiness with me.

I somehow since then got a line on another Setchel Carlson that I'm hoping to complete the deal on soon.

Those monochrome Zenith's are still rather plentiful (due to their long life) especially up here. I'm sure you'll end up with one eventually.

Had a guy selling a Seeburg 201 jukebox. Arranged to look at it that weekend, he messages me back (FB messenger) 2 days later saying he sold it.

People are scumbags more than they aren’t l. I’ve been ghosted by more deals on FB Messenger than not. Seems to be the closer to the Northeast, the more likely you are to get f**ked. Last few times, it was sellers in NJ, NY, or CT. One the flip side, I picked up an adorable ceramic TV lamp in Kulpmont, and the lady was more than happy to sell it to me, because she was getting hammered by weirdos, and I was there with cash, on schedule. Ditto when I picked up my Wurlitzer 1650 in Pittsburgh. Showed up with cash, ready to load. Seller was very apologetic that she was intermittent when we were setting up the transaction, because her work life had exploded for a few weeks prior.

The problem down here is that it seems to be rather hard to find good candidates for restoration that have not been already destroyed by being made into pet beds, or some fool trying to sell it for an exorbitant price, example over $150, I have seen some fools trying to ask $1000 or more for vintage sets, and I'd LOVE to tell them what to go do with it, but that would be uncivilized, and quite impossible, well, impossible without a gallon of lubricant and a very VERY good proctologist!

Unfortunately, that's the way the world is today, so if you see something, jump on it and take a chance, especially if you've been looking for one for long time... Very few people will wait while you do the research... As long as you're happy that's all that matters, we've all paid a little more for something then we wanted but we make it up by selling other things...

Good advice

I always assume that “first come, first served “ rule holds, if I don’t know the seller personally.
