Long-time lurker breaking the ice

Hi all,

I've been a lurker of this site for 5 or 6 years, and a member for over 3 years. When I posted my first thread here recently, I realized it was my first post ever, so I thought I would introduce myself!

My main interests are VCRs, camcorders, and pocket-size portable TVs (Sony Watchman, Casio, etc.). I love just about anything battery-powered. I own a couple of older VHS VCRs, several vintage camcorders, including a Sony Hi8 and two Sony Digital8 camcorders which I still use regularly to make YouTube videos, and a couple of pocket TVs. I'd have a lot more, but I'm limited on space and funds. :P

More minor interests are console color TVs, reel-to-reel VTRs, and tube-based video cameras.

Finally, I provide the following information about myself - I'm an Electrical Engineering student, an amateur radio operator, and I collect many other types of vintage electronics - mainly computers, calculators, and audio equipment. I can be found many places on the Internet under the name "themaritimeman", which I would have used here, except apparently that's too long-winded for this site. Here are my main social media outlets:

www.youtube.com/themaritimeman
www.youtube.com/themaritimeman2
www.instagram.com/themaritimeman
www.twitter.com/themaritimeman

And that's pretty much it!

Welcome, from a recent EE graduate.

There are not many users here that are into portable TVs especially later portables (tube gear is the main point of interest here), but some are into the vintage portables.

I'm mostly a tube Radio & TV guy (I've got ~14 tube colors) and about 35 monochromes (and both numbers have dropped a bit recently)...Don't ask how many tube radios; it is probably close to 150 but is hard to track since I buy and sell a lot.

But I like most all electronics (Heck I used to collect rotary phones fans and vacuums a decade back). I've got every audio and video recording format ~20 years of looking has allowed me chance to lay hands on...Including 2 EIAJ RTR VTRs one of which is a rare Sony AV-5000A, and Sony's first U-matic deck

I've never tried to collect portable TVs, but quite a number (especially pre-1975 models) have found me.

Welcome, CPQ5360, From the Pacific Northwest

HI:

I live in Everett WA, about 23 miles north of Seattle. I have been mostly a lurker as well, but also a member since 2009 and occasional minor contributor. I share your interest in portable SS sets, and recently acquired an early Samsung BW 5" TV, AM-FM radio from 1979 which I hope to have a post about soon. As I'm sure you are aware, there is a TON of knowledge and expertise here which all are happy to share.
